3 Youths Held After Shots Fired at Pursuing Police
Three juveniles have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after firing three shotgun blasts at Los Angeles police during a five-mile chase in North Hollywood and Sun Valley, police said Saturday.
The three male youths, believed to be members of a Pacoima gang, “told us they were out to do a drive-by” shooting of rival gang members when police attempted to stop them for a traffic violation on Lankershim Boulevard about 9 p.m. Friday, Lt. John Waters said.
As the youths sped north, one climbed out the passenger window and fired a shotgun blast at the motorcycle officers, but missed, Waters said.
Two more shots were fired at the officers as they chased the youths on the Golden State Freeway and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Waters said, but no one was hit.
The suspects were captured in a Sun Valley residential neighborhood after their car hit a curb and they attempted to flee on foot, Waters said.
The three, whose names were not released because of their ages, are 17, 16 and 14 years old, police said.
