Former Congressman Retires From Judgeship
California Court of Appeal Justice George Elmore Danielson of Monterey Park, who served in the state Assembly and Senate and the U.S. Congress, has retired from the bench.
Danielson, 77, resigned from the U.S. House in 1982, when he was appointed to the 2nd District Court of Appeal by Gov. Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr. He had won his first House term in 1970, and had been an FBI agent and an assistant U.S. attorney prior to his tenure in the state Legislature.
Reflecting on his career in two branches of the federal government, Danielson said last week, “I enjoyed Congress more--the constant contact with lots of people. On the court, there was almost no one around.
“It’s sort of monastic, sitting in my chambers, reading and writing. Congress was very active, very kinetic.”
Robert E. Wycoff of Pasadena and Dr. Kenneth L. Senter of Glendale recently were named recipients of the California Medical Center-Los Angeles Humanitarian Award.
Wycoff, president and chief operating officer of ARCO, was honored for his extensive involvement in civic and social causes. Senter was recognized for his work with patients unable to pay for medical care.
