RIOT AFTERMATH : Area Groups Offer Help to Riot Victims
The following groups are accepting donations for the victims of the Los Angeles riots :
* American Red Cross is taking money (checks should be made out to the Disaster Relief Fund) at its Glendale/La Crescenta Valley Chapter, 1501 S. Brand Blvd., Glendale 91204; 24-hour hot line, (213) 739-4543, for those needing help. Volunteers to work shifts on the hot line should call (818) 243-3121.
* Armenian Relief Society is accepting money; specify riot relief, at 517 W. Glenoaks, Glendale, 91202. Volunteers are also need to help assess damage to Armenian businesses.
* Catholic social agencies are working with the downtown office of Catholic Charities to coordinate donations of food, clothing, household goods, cooking utensils, mattresses and money; 1400 W. 9th St., Los Angeles, 90015; (213) 251-3400. Also, Catholic Psychological Services can used licensed therapists; (818) 241-7308 or (213) 251-3458.
* Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is collecting food, clothing, money, diapers and baby food; 440 St. Katherine Drive, La Canada Flintridge.
* Glendale Adventist Hospital Community Services Center is accepting money, food, clothing, bedding, toys, furniture and cooking utensils on Vallejo Drive next to the hospital at 1509 Wilson Terrace; (818) 409-8008.
* Glendale Presbyterian Church is collecting canned goods and money at its ministry center, 125 S. Louise Ave., Glendale; (818) 242-8873.
* Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic, 3325 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, needs canned goods, baby formula and food, diapers, and men’s and children’s clothing; (213) 661-1463.
* La Crescenta Presbyterian needs baby food, canned goods, diapers, bottled water and other non-perishables; 2902 Montrose Ave., La Crescenta from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; (818) 249-6137.
* Occidental College, Herrick Memorial Chapel and Interfaith Center, collecting non-perishable food, baby food, diapers, clothing and blankets; 1600 Campus Road, Eagle Rock; (213) 259-2677.
* St. Bede’s the Venerable Catholic Church Skidetts group is collecting canned goods and other items; 215 Foothill Blvd., La Canada Flintridge; (818) 790-5155.
* Salvation Army, Glendale Corps, is accepting food and clothing at 801 S. Central Ave.; (818) 246-5586.
* United Methodist Church of Glendale is collecting food, baby items and money, 134 N. Kenwood St. at Wilson; (818) 243-2105.
