Police Wednesday identified a man who was shot, reportedly when an off-duty U.S. Customs inspector tried to stop him from burglarizing a neighbor’s home.
The man, who is in fair condition at Sharp Memorial Hospital, was identified as James Joel Michalski, 28, an unemployed resident of El Cajon, police said.
The U.S. Customes inspector, whose name has not been disclosed, shot Michalski once in the chest.
