West Covina : Council Selects New Mayor
William Tarozzi handed over the mayor’s gavel to Councilman Richard Jennings for a one-year term that began Monday.
The council broke tradition by passing over mayor pro tem Bradley McFadden and choosing Jennings, who was elected to the council last year. The vote was 3 to 2, with members Nancy Manners and McFadden against.
“The mayor pro tem isn’t a position that can be passed on, said Councilman Steve Herfert. “You have to prove yourself.” Herfert was elected mayor pro tem.
Jennings, 64, is an independent insurance agent. Herfert, 35, an energy conservation representative for Southern California Edison, also was elected last year.
