Quayle Appoints Two Aides to Staff
WASHINGTON — Vice President-elect Dan Quayle announced Thursday the appointments of David Ryder as his deputy chief of staff and Lizabeth Murphy as deputy press secretary.
Ryder, 33, is currently director of the Office of Management and Operations for the Office of the President-elect. He will serve as deputy to Quayle’s newly designated chief of staff, Robert Guttman, and will oversee the daily management and operations of the vice president.
Until last month, when the Indiana senator was elected vice president, Ryder was operations director for TCOM Systems Inc., a mail distribution company.
Murphy, 28, is presently an assistant press secretary at the White House. She is a graduate of Colby College, where she founded a Republican club and was an All-America in track and field. She will be a deputy to David Beckwith, the former Time magazine reporter named this month as Quayle’s chief spokesman.
