16 Injured Fleeing Jetliner
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Sixteen passengers aboard an American Airlines A-300 Airbus were injured after the jet made an emergency landing because of a false fire warning light on the plane, an airline spokesman said today.
Flight 1158 returned to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, about 30 minutes after it took off for New York’s Kennedy International Airport with 279 passengers and 10 crew members. Those injured suffered cuts and bruises when passengers fled the plane through inflatable emergency exit ramps, the spokesman said.
