The State - News from Nov. 28, 1988
Aided by dogs specially trained to sniff out grave sites, about 100 people mounted an inch-by-inch search of a Hayward park near where a 9-year-old girl was abducted a week ago. Authorities had few leads in the Nov. 19 abduction of Michaela Garecht, a blonde, blue-eyed girl, despite hundreds of telephone tips and a reward that has swelled to more than $10,000. Searchers fanned out to comb every foot of the parks and hills around Hayward, particularly the 1,014-acre Garin Regional Park that was searched by air last week. Michaela, who is 4-feet, 8-inches tall and weighs 75-pounds, was last seen being forced into a car outside a grocery store.
