Local News in Brief : Newport Beach : Attorney Takes Stroll on Ocean for 26 Miles
An Orange County attorney walked--well, sort of walked--26 miles across water from Molokai to Oahu, aided by 11-foot pontoon “shoes.”
Daniel Hodes, 33, said his legs were sore when he arrived at Koko Marina in East Oahu on Wednesday. He reported seeing sharks near the end of the trip.
The feat was the latest in a series of water-walking expeditions for the Corona del Mar resident. He has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records with similar hikes across the Strait of Gibraltar, the English Channel and Cook Strait in New Zealand.
Hodes “walked” on the polyethylene pontoons, which weigh 16 pounds each, with the assistance of a 10 1/2-foot paddle.
