Reiner Urges Quick Cal/OSHA Restoration
Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner called on Gov. George Deukmejian on Thursday to move as swiftly as possible to restore California’s private-sector workplace safety and health program in the aftermath of voter approval of Proposition 97.
The measure directs the governor to restore funding for Cal/OSHA, which he vetoed in 1987.
When the Legislature reconvenes Dec. 5, the governor should submit a budget augmentation to fund Cal/OSHA, beginning Jan. 1, 1989, “at a level equal to 1982 authorized staffing levels, adjusted upward for the increase in California’s working population,” Reiner told a Sacramento news conference.
