$5,000 Fund to Help the Needy
Help the Homeless Help Themselves, a Palos Verdes Peninsula group that aids homeless families, has established a $5,000 fund to assist people with needs not covered by public service agencies.
Requests for assistance are screened by the Harbor Coalition of Food and Shelter Providers, an umbrella agency of San Pedro, Wilmington and Harbor City organizations that serve poor, homeless and hungry people.
“This is for help that can’t be provided through normal budgets,” said Betsy Bernhart, coalition president. Examples include job training supplies, dental care and clothing. J. William Finkel, president of Help the Homeless, said the $5,000 fund will be replenished as money is paid out.
