HELENA — In Montana former GOP state Sen. Stan Stephens defeated former Gov. Thomas Judge 53% to 47% for the governor’s seat which is being vacated by a Democrat.
Two-term Democratic U.S. Sen. John Melcher lost to Republican county commissioner Conrad Burns 48% to 52%.
George Bush was the winner of Montana’s four electoral votes by 70,559 votes or 53% to 62,147 votes or 47% for Michael S. Dukakis.
