City park workers in the Northern California community of Pleasanton are handing out 500 disposable scoops to dog owners to encourage them to clean up after their pets. Dolores Bengtson, director of the city’s Parks and Community Services Department, said she hopes the reminders will encourage people to fulfill their obligations as pet owners. “I just think some people aren’t even thinking about it,” she said. Park workers are passing out cardboard and plastic disposable scoops along with a copy of city ordinances that require pets to be kept on a leash and for owners to clean up after them.
