Patient Who Inspired His Co-Workers Dies
DES MOINES — A man whose fight with cancer inspired co-workers to donate their vacation time to help support his family has died at the age of 34.
Randy Theis died Saturday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, apparently from a blood clot that lodged in a lung, said his father-in-law, Charles Comegys.
Fellow employees of Theis at the Des Moines Water Works donated more than 12 weeks of their own vacation time and personal leave to help support Theis’ family while he fought the disease. Theis is survived by his wife, Nancy, two sons and three daughters.
