Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Passenger Killed, 2 Hurt in Coast Highway Crash
One man was killed and two others injured early Sunday in a head-on collision between two cars on Coast Highway near Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach, police said.
A passenger in one of the cars, Richard Allen Shearn, 18, of El Toro, was killed instantly, Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Don Barney said.
The accident occurred about 2:43 a.m. when a southbound 1967 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Fardad Vahid, 18, of El Toro apparently crossed into northbound traffic lanes, Barney said.
Shearn was a passenger in Vahid’s auto, which collided with a 1974 Rolls-Royce driven by Derrick Carter, 39, of Corona del Mar.
Carter suffered head injuries, and Vahid suffered head injuries, a broken right arm and two broken legs, Barney said.
Both were transported to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where a hospital spokeswoman said Carter was in fair condition and Vahid in serious condition.
Neither driver was arrested or cited, Barney said.
