Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : 2 Youths Held, 2 Escape After Shots at Police
A marked police car was hit once in a rear door a when burst of shots was fired as it drove past “several hundred” cars in a parking lot early Sunday, police said. No injuries were reported.
Two juveniles were arrested after a car chase that included more shooting. The suspects, ages 15 and 17, are being held in Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Joe Esther said.
The shooting occurred at the corner of Bristol Street and Edinger Avenue at 1 a.m. as officers Thomas Ahern and William Casey drove by the parking lot, Esther said.
A car with the two arrested youths and two other suspects drove away and was pursued by another squad car, Esther said, with the suspects firing several more times as they tried to escape.
Police pursued the car to the 1400 block of West Highland Street, where two suspects ran away but the other two were arrested, Esther said.
Two pistols, of .25 caliber and .38 caliber, were recovered from the car, police said.
