Local News in Brief : 1 Youth Slain, 1 Injured in Drive-By Shooting
A North Hollywood youth was killed and another teen-ager was wounded early Sunday in Hollywood in what police believe was a gang-related drive-by shooting, authorities said.
The youths were standing on Gower Street near Santa Monica Boulevard about 1:30 a.m. when they were struck by gunfire from a passing car, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ruben Whittington.
Francisco Rodriguez-Perez, 17, was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he later died, a Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman said.
The other youth, whose name and age was not released, was in good condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Whittington said. He is believed also to be from North Hollywood, Whittington said.
Police said they had no suspects in the shootings. Whittington said authorities do not know if the victims were gang members.
