Lawyers Lash Back

Your article hints at the central issue of the legal profession: Lawyers make money off of other people’s misery. Justice isn’t served; it’s bought.

The Los Angeles Superior Court recently asked me to serve on a jury, starting Sept. 6. I wrote them back, refusing to do so on the grounds that I have no respect at all for lawyers.

And the reason is simple: We only go to the attorneys when we’re scared to death or raging with anger, not the ideal moods for human association. And the first thing the lawyers tell us is to shut up, don’t say any more than is necessary because our legal system isn’t predicated on a search for truth.
