Local News in Brief : Countywide : Wilson Will Speak at Medal of Honor Event
Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) will be the speaker Sunday at the recognition ceremony for recipients of the Medal of Honor.
The event, which is public, will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Irvine Plaza, next to the Irvine Hilton and Towers. It will close the Medal of Honor Society Convention meeting today through Sunday.
The society is composed of Medal of Honor recipients, and its members meet every other year. The group, begun in 1958, is meeting in Orange County for the first time.
Other ceremony evens will include a performance by the All-American Boys Chorus and by a Color Guard representing all branches of the military.
Convention activities also include a reception at 6 p.m. today and a banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday. Both events will be at the Irvine Hilton and Towers and are open to the public. In addition, there will be a boat parade Sunday in Newport Harbor beginning at 1 p.m.
The Medal of Honor is the Armed Forces’ highest decoration.
