Probe of Attempted Murder Turns Up Body
An investigation of a Glendale man arrested for attempted homicide led police to the decomposed body of a woman who was strangled, authorities said.
The incident began Sunday when Lori Mellinger, 26, of Los Angeles told police an acquaintance, Benjamin Levey, 28, beat her on the head with a wooden club and stabbed her in the face with a screwdriver early that morning.
At about 10:30 that morning, officers investigating Levey’s former Glendale addresses discovered the body in an apartment in the 1800 block of Vassar Avenue, police said.
The apartment was rented by Pamela Leitch, 38. However, the Los Angeles Coroner’s office has not positively identified the body.
On Monday, Glendale police arrested Levey in Arleta on suspicion of attempted homicide. Levey was driving Leitch’s car, police said.
No bail has been set.
