Costa Mesa : Orange Coast College to Induct 3 Former Students Into Hall of Fame
Three former Orange Coast College students--psychologist Marjorie Anderson, real estate executive Terry McCardle and research entrepreneur Albert Wong--will be inducted into the community college’s Hall of Fame on Sept. 18.
Anderson is a community activist in Newport Beach. She entered the college in 1971 after her eldest son, a former Orange Coast student, was killed in Vietnam. She later earned a bachelor’s degree at UCLA, and at the age of 70, obtained her master’s degree in psychology. Today, the 73-year-old Anderson has her own practice counseling married couples and families.
McCardle, of Costa Mesa, a starting guard on Orange Coast’s 1959 and 1960 football teams, won a full scholarship to Oregon State University. He later became owner of Century 21/The Real Estaters and Treeco Escrow in 1982. He has been president of the college’s Alumni Assn. for the past two years.
Wong, a native of Hong Kong, came to the United States in 1969 and enrolled at Orange Coast. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Cal State Fullerton and is a founding partner of Irvine’s AST Research Inc., a computer equipment manufacturer that is one of the nation’s fastest-growing corporations.
The Laguna Hills man is a charter member of the college foundation’s board of directors.
