Irvine : 2 Arrested in Possible Shooting on Freeway
Police arrested two men Wednesday after a woman reported that the rear window of her car had been shattered, apparently by a bullet, as she drove onto the San Diego Freeway, authorities said.
The woman, identified as Leslie Ashton, 25, of Irvine, told police that she was driving on the freeway ramp from Culver Drive at about 9 a.m. when something struck her car window.
Officers called to the scene searched a nearby section of the Culverdale tract where a bullet could have been fired. They reported finding Lawrence L. Hsu, 19, who said he and a friend had been firing a high-powered pellet gun in their backyard.
Hsu said his friend had left for Los Angeles International Airport, where he was due to fly to San Francisco, according to investigators.
Police arrested Hsu on suspicion of cultivating the marijuana they reported finding in the yard. At the airport, Hsu’s friend, Mark C. Hayne, 19, was arrested on suspicion of shooting at a vehicle, a felony.
Both were released without bail, officers said.
A police spokesman said Wednesday that investigators had not yet determined whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
