City Council Delays Rise in Meter Rates
The Glendale City Council postponed action to quadruple the cost of parking in city lots and on downtown streets after merchants and workers complained Tuesday that the new rates would be excessive.
The council last week passed a resolution raising parking-meter rates from 5 cents to 20 cents an hour in parking lots and 10 cents to 40 cents an hour at street meters. The rates were to start in September.
However, the council this week put off voting on an ordinance implementing the higher rates. The issue was returned to the city Parking Commission, which is to make a recommendation to the council in late October.
