L.A. Harbor : Record Container Traffic
The Port of Los Angeles reported a record year for shipping container cargo in fiscal 1987. The equivalent of 1.5 million 20-foot containers passed through the harbor, a 23.6% increase over last year.
Although most containers are 40 feet long, the port measures container traffic in 20-foot units.
Harbor Department officials said the port ranks seventh in the world for container cargo and third in North America, behind New York/New Jersey and Long Beach.
