Critically Burned 6-Yr.-Old Girl Says Woman Set Her Afire

A 6-year-old girl, her clothes ablaze, was found early today by a security guard in an alley, authorities said.

The child, identified as Quiana Cortines, was rushed by paramedics to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center where she was listed in critical but stable condition with second- and third-degree burns to 36% of her body, said a nursing supervisor who would not identify herself.

The child was found at 1:15 a.m. by a Pinkerton private security guard in an alley in the 1400 block of East Washington Boulevard, Newton Division Lt. Charles Massey said.

“She told the guard she was set on fire by a woman who later fled from the area,” Massey said. “We’re trying to find out what she was doing there and where her parents are.”
