The Region : Border Officer Kills Alien

A suspected illegal alien was shot and killed by a Border Patrol officer about three miles north of the Mexican border near San Diego during what officials said was a struggle for the officer’s gun. Border Patrol spokesman Michael Nicley said the agent, whose name was not released, was driving alone at mid-morning in the Chula Vista area when he spotted Juan Resendiz Hernandez, 42, and attempted to arrest him. Nicley said Hernandez resisted arrest and tried to disarm the agent, but “in the ensuing struggle, the alien was shot.”
