Car Hits, Kills Jaywalking Woman, 82, on Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood
An 82-year-old woman was killed early Friday as she jaywalked across Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.
Florence O’Connell was struck by a car about 5:45 a.m. as she tried to cross the boulevard at Beck Avenue against the signal light, Officer Ronald Hutchison said.
A witness said the light changed as O’Connell reached the middle of the street, where there is a safety zone for pedestrians, but she continued walking and was struck, Hutchison said.
The driver of the car, Charles Sherman, 28, of Burbank, probably will not be charged in the accident, the officer said. Sherman had entered the intersection on a green light at a speed estimated at 40 to 45 m.p.h., he said.
