Coronado
Two Coronado police officers pursuing a suspected drunk driver were injured, along with three other people, early Friday when three cars collided on Silver Strand Boulevard.
Officers Kevin Scott Hirsch, 28, and Dan Shicker, 24, were treated at Coronado Hospital. Also treated at the same hospital were John Pilch, 36, Todd Foster, 28, and Emily Negrete Taylor, 25.
At 1:52 a.m. Friday, the two police officers were pursuing Foster for suspicion of drunk driving on California 75, near the U.S. Naval Amphibious Base.
Foster and his passenger Taylor were pulling over to the shoulder of the road when the accident occured.
At that point, Pilch’s car rammed into the police cruiser, knocked it off the road and then bashed into the rear of Foster’s car, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Alex Calica.
Pilch was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving; Foster was released.
Calica said the police car was demolished and that the other two cars were badly damaged.
