Duarte : Applications Sought

The city, which recently changed the expiration date of some city commissioners’ terms to Dec. 31, is accepting applications from residents interested in appointments to the Planning, Cable, Traffic and Safety and Parks and Recreation commissions.

The new expiration date means that some commissioners’ four-year terms will be extended and others reduced by as much as 15 months. The plan is to begin all terms at the start of even-numbered years, staggering them at two-year intervals.

In addition, elections for the City Council, which used to be in April of even-numbered years, have been moved to November of odd-numbered years to coincide with school board elections. If commissioners are elected to the council or the board, their replacements can be appointed in time for the normal beginning of a new term.

Commissioners whose terms have expired will be eligible to re-apply for their posts. Applications should be sent to City Hall, 1600 Huntington Drive.
