A manhunt was in progress in a rural area of Northern California for a father suspected of killing his two daughters, ages 5 and 7, officials reported. The children of Gerald Frank Hollek, 33, died when the van they slept in was doused with gasoline and deliberately set afire in a camping area of Nevada County, Sheriff Bill Heafey said. Hollek, who was believed to have fled the scene on foot, had been involved in a custody battle over the girls. His common-law wife, Amy Eunice Nelson of Shasta County, had reported the girls missing after Hollek failed to return them.
