Local News in Brief : Acton Man, 22, Dies as Car Overturns in Field
An Acton man was killed early Sunday when his car skidded off Crown Valley Road and overturned in a field, authorities said.
The victim, Jack Gonzales, 22, was driving south on the rural highway near the Antelope Valley Freeway in Acton about 3 a.m. when the accident occurred, said California Highway Patrol Officer Bill Burdick.
Gonzales was traveling at about 60 m.p.h. when he lost control of his car, which slid across the roadway, overturning in a field, Burdick said. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP spokesman said.
Gonzales was alone in his car, authorities said.
