The Region : W. Hollywood Asks Ex-Mayor for $1,200
Former West Hollywood Mayor Valerie Terrigno, who was convicted of embezzling federal funds in 1986, is being asked by city officials to repay more than $1,200 in charges on a city-issued credit card that officials forgot to cancel. Terrigno, who gained nationwide attention in 1984 as the first avowed lesbian to become a mayor, was convicted last year on 12 counts of embezzling federal funds intended for the poor while she served as director of a Hollywood counseling center, a position she held before becoming mayor. Terrigno’s other city-issued credit cards were canceled when she left office owing $1,610 in personal or undocumented charges. She has since reimbursed the city for those charges.
