Huntington Beach : Ex-Astronaut to Head Fourth of July Parade
Former astronaut Edwin E. (Buzz) Aldrin Jr.--second man to step foot on the moon--will be the grand marshal of Huntington Beach’s annual Fourth of July parade.
Aldrin will be joined in the city’s 83rd annual parade by Disneyland characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, city officials said.
Other parade attractions include the U. S. Air Force Band of the Golden West, which has participated in Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses parade. The band is based at March Air Force Base near Riverside. The Santa Ana Corps of the Salvation Army also will participate in what organizers say is the oldest continuously staged Fourth of July parade in the country.
Applications to participate in the parade are still available at City Hall or by calling the Fourth of July “hot line,” (714) 960-8899.
