Neighbor Charged in Killing of Woman, 83
A 20-year-old Sun Valley man has been charged with murder in the 1986 rape and beating death of an 83-year-old neighbor.
Eddie Wayne Stone, 20, faces a June 5 preliminary hearing on one count each of burglary, rape and murder in connection with the slaying of Frances Landry. Stone was arraigned Tuesday in San Fernando Municipal Court.
Landry’s partly clothed body was found the morning of April 15, 1986 in her home in the 8300 block of Clybourn Avenue after a niece reported that she had not heard from her aunt in several days, Los Angeles Police Lt. Bob Stemples said. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said blows to the body caused the death.
Stone was arrested April 4 by police in Klamath Falls, Ore., on a warrant issued in March after Los Angeles police obtained new evidence linking Stone to Landry’s death, Stemples said. He would not disclose the evidence.
Stone became a suspect in Landry’s death shortly after the killing, Stemples said. He was extradited from Oregon May 22.
