William A. Schwartz, president of Cox Enterprises Inc., Atlanta, resigned last week and will be succeeded by James C. Kennedy, the company’s executive vice president, Chairman Garner Anthony announced.
Cox Enterprises publishes 20 daily newspapers, including the Atlanta Journal and the Atlanta Constitution, as well as weekly newspapers and a monthly publication. The company also owns and operates eight television stations, including WSB-TV in Atlanta, and 11 radio stations.
Anthony’s announcement gave no reason for Schwartz’s resignation.
Anthony earlier had announced his own plans to leave Cox Enterprises by the end of the year. The company’s announcement said Kennedy will serve as president and chief operating officer until that time, when he will become chairman and CEO.
