The Master’s College, formerly Los Angeles Baptist College, is a four-year liberal arts, Christian-oriented institution, at 21726 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall. The college moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 1961 from the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. Its name was changed in 1985 to allay the impression that the college is still in Los Angeles and that it is a school primarily for Baptists. About one-third of the 300-member student body come from churches of its longtime sponsor, the General Assn. of Regular Baptist Churches. The college graduated its first students from a new master’s degree program at commencement exercises Saturday in Bross Auditorium on campus. It also presented one-year Bible-study diplomas. Commencement speaker was Joseph M. Stowell III, president of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

Degrees: 83 diplomas, including 20 one-year Bible-study diplomas, 53 bachelor’s degrees and 10 graduate degrees.

Honorary Degrees:

Joseph M. Stowell III, president, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, honorary doctorate of divinity.
