Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Hanford Dole said today she has no plans to leave her job to help her husband, Sen. Bob Dole, campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

“I told my employees that I’m not going to be a lame duck. I have no plans to leave right now,” Elizabeth Dole said before a speech to the 100th anniversary convention of the Kansas Bankers Assn.

She also told reporters that she has no plans herself to seek national office if Dole, who represents Kansas, is unsuccessful in his expected bid for the nomination.

Elizabeth Dole said she is prepared for the media scrutiny that “comes with the territory” for relatives of people who seek the presidency.

Her husband has created a campaign exploratory committee and is apparently bidding for the GOP nomination in 1988, but has not formally declared his candidacy.
