Local News in Brief : Intruder With Bayonet Killed by Sunland Man
A Sunland resident shot and killed a man armed with a bayonet and a toy gun who attacked him in his home Friday night, Los Angeles police said.
John Collins, 35, suffered cuts to his left shoulder and cheek when the intruder attacked him with the bayonet shortly before midnight, Police Officer Neal Fine said.
After the man demanded money, jewelry and narcotics, Collins got his .12-gauge shotgun and shot the man twice in the chest.
The 30-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld until relatives are notified, had entered Collins’ house through an unlocked door, Fine said. He had a plastic replica of a semiautomatic pistol in addition to the bayonet, police said.
Collins was treated for the knife wounds by paramedics. The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene.
