South Bay : Child Seat-Belt Use Survey
An organization conducting a program on child auto safety in three beach cities has concluded that 64% of the children aged 15 and under younger observed in a survey were not using safety seats or safety belts while riding in cars.
Observations of 544 children were made at a shopping center by volunteers trained by the Los Angeles Area Child Passenger Safety Assn. The group said that of children under the age of 4 who were in safety seats, 16% were improperly restrained.
The association recently received a $12,000 grant from the South Bay Hospital District to conduct a child auto safety program in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.
