The state Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended former San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock from practicing law pending further investigation by the State Bar into whether he should be disbarred.

The suspension becomes effective Feb. 21.

Hedgecock was convicted in October of perjury and conspiracy to commit perjury, both of which are grounds for disbarment, for lying about a scheme to funnel contributions from the now-defunct La Jolla investment firm of J. David & Co. into his 1983 mayoral election campaign.
