Rescue Story Springs Leak
The story told by two men who were pulled from the ocean near Los Angeles Harbor on Saturday, claiming that they had jumped from an outward-bound Peruvian vessel, sprang a leak when immigration agents found a friend hiding in the hold of the ship that had allegedly rescued them. Oscar Morinobu Miyashyro, 35, told officials that he stowed away aboard the freighter Yacuwazi, along with Alejandro Manuel Gonzalez, 33, and Adolpho Felix Hamman, 29, before it sailed from Peru on Jan. 5. He said Gonzalez and Hamman jumped ship outside the harbor and tried to swim to shore in an effort to enter the United States illegally but called for help when they decided they could not make it.
