Pico Rivera : Dial-A-Ride to Get 4th Van
The City Council has agreed to expand its Dial-A-Ride service by adding a fourth van to handle the increase in the number of daily riders. Because of the demand, City Manager Dennis Courtemarche said, as many as 40 requests a day for rides go unfilled.
Recently, the transit service has been averaging about 1,350 calls a month from citizens, Courtemarche said. A Los Angeles-based company, Trans Cab, is under contract to operate three Dial-A-Ride vans in Pico Rivera.
The fourth van, Courtemarche said, should be available for service by mid-February. He said the city pays Trans Cab about $20 an hour to operate the vans. The money comes from Pico Rivera’s share of Proposition A transit tax money. Since a half-cent sales tax was set aside in 1982 for use by cities to establish public transportation systems, Pico Rivera has received about $1.8 million.
