Diamond Bar : Petition Deadline Extended
The Diamond Bar Homeowners Assn. has extended the deadline for pro-incorporation petitions to Feb. 14. Phyllis Papen, chairman of the association’s incorporation committee, said that by the Jan. 15 deadline, the group had collected only 2,400 of the 4,677 signatures needed.
The original deadline of Nov. 15, 1985, was changed after the group found that volunteers had not started collecting signatures until Aug. 15. Under state law, a group has six months to circulate incorporation petitions from the time the first signature is collected, making the Jan. 15 deadline a month earlier than necessary.
Papen said the group must collect the signatures of 25% of the registered voters living within the boundaries of the proposed city before the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission can consider an incorporation election. There are about 18,700 registered voters in Diamond Bar.
