Saddleback High School junior Mike Enomoto will be interviewed by Gov. George Deukmejian as one of three finalists for the student’s seat on the state Board of Education.

Enomoto, 16, who has a 4.6 grade point average (higher than 4.0 because he takes college-level courses), traveled to Sacramento Wednesday to compete against five other semifinalists in interviews with board members. The trustees selected Enomoto, Rod Atamian of Clovis and Robert Brough of Moreno Valley and will write letters to the governor, who will then schedule interviews with all three.

The student representative will begin a one-year term next August and will be a full voting member of the 11-person board. There is no schedule for Deukmejian to make his decision.

Enomoto, who said he is looking forward to the Deukmejian interview, was selected from an original field of 175 applicants. He hopes to attend college at Stanford or UCLA and study to be a doctor.
