Harbor Police Lose Clout in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE — The Oceanside Harbor Police won’t be making any arrests for a while, the City Council, sitting as the Harbor Board of Directors, decided this week.
The board’s action follows the cancellation on Jan. 1. of an insurance policy covering false arrests by the police force. The Harbor Police will be limited to rescue operations, for which they are still insured, until city officials can line up new coverage for the officers.
In the meantime, the Oceanside Police Department will help out with law enforcement duties in the harbor area.
