The Region : 21 Communities Picked for Census Test
Twenty-one communities in Los Angeles County have been chosen for full-scale population and housing censuses in 1986 to prepare for the 1990 nationwide population study, the U.S. Census Bureau announced. Los Angeles is one of two areas in the nation targeted for the surveys. Eight counties in Mississippi will also be studied. The two censuses will use new data collection and automation procedures to test them for the national census. The census will include the communities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, East Compton, East Los Angeles, Florence-Graham, Huntington Park, Lynwood, Maywood, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pico Rivera, South El Monte, South Gate, South San Gabriel, Walnut Park, West Compton, West Whittier-Los Nietos and Willowbrook. Census day will be March 16, 1986. The survey will include area size, population density, housing characteristics and minority populations, the bureau said.
