The controversial new Prince album, “Around the World in a Day,” is an instant hit, debuting on the Billboard magazine pop chart at a lofty No. 14. Though reviews and reactions have been mixed, his fans are buying the album. So far there is still no single from the album and no immediate plans to release one.
The Power Station’s debut album, “The Power Station” (No. 13), should be in the Top 10 next week. The most popular recent releases are Rick Springfield’s “Tao” (No. 28) and “Katrina and the Waves” (No. 48) by Katrina and the Waves. New albums to watch--both by newcomers: “Voices Carry” (No. 56) by ‘Til Tuesday and Whitney Houston’s “Whitney Houston” (No. 66).
SINGLES: Madonna’s “Crazy for You” knocked “We Are the World” out of the top spot. . . . Harold Faltermeyer’s “Axel F” (No. 12) is the next Top 10 single from the “Beverly Hills Cop” sound track. . . . The new Phil Collins’ single, “Susseudio,” debuted at No. 39 and is a shoo-in for the Top 10.
These are the charts compiled by Billboard magazine. The number in parentheses is last week’s chart position.
