McDonald’s kills employee-resource website critical of fast food

McDonald’s has taken down its resource website for its employees -- the one that advised that fast food was unhealthy -- after realizing, the company says, that the site linked to “irrelevant or outdated†information.

The fast-food giant was a subject of ridicule and other unwanted attention this week after photos surfaced of infographics on the website, McResource Line. Under a section of the site titled “fast food tips,†a picture of a meal of fries, a burger and a soft drink were labeled “unhealthy choice,†while a picture of a submarine sandwich, salad and water was labeled “healthier choice.â€

The infographics and posts were created by a third-party provider for the McDonald’s site.

“Between links to irrelevant or outdated information, along with outside groups taking elements out of context, this created unwarranted scrutiny and inappropriate commentary,†said McDonald’s in a statement. “None of this helps our McDonald’s team members. We’ll continue to provide service to our folks through an internal telephone help line, which is how the majority of employees access the McResource services.â€

This is not the first time McDonald’s came under fire for comments and advice found on the McResource site. Earlier this year, a budgeting guide was posted that suggested that a McDonald’s employee would need a second or third job to simply make a living.
