The islands that make up the Republic of Singapore turned 50 on Sunday, and celebrated with a splashy Golden Jubilee event. Singapore Airlines kicked off this present for travelers: $850 round-trip airfare from Los Angeles to Singapore.

Singapore Airlines' round-trip offer for $850 economy class fares started last Sunday. You also may buy tickets at the same price leaving from San Francisco, New York City and Houston.

You must purchase tickets by Sept. 27 for travel between Sept. 1 and May 31. There are blackout dates, and the discounted fares are based on availability.

If you want to go soon, I found availability for an $850 round-trip fare outbound from LAX to Singapore (with a change of planes in Tokyo) on Sept. 21 and a return on Sept. 28 (also via Tokyo). The airfare sale is a good one, particularly if you want to lock in a bargain for travel next year.
