Re “Republicans searching for Plan B,†Sept. 26
Listening to the procession of Republicans in the last two years is like playing whack-a-mole: As fast as the American public knocks one down, another one pops up. Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich and now Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): None has offered solutions to governing. They just obstruct everything.
Why do they not follow the examples of Ronald Reagan, Howard Baker, George Shultz, Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, Nancy Kassebaum or Elizabeth Dole? It seems this current version of the Republican Party has forgotten entirely about leadership.

Someone please ask those in Congress opposed to the president’s healthcare law plan to forfeit their platinum-level, government-subsidized health insurance plans. They obviously don’t understand the plight of the uninsured. Why do they think they have the right to deny millions of Americans the opportunity to gain health insurance?
As for defending the free market, are they the only ones in Congress who don’t understand that the U.S. pays much more per capita in healthcare costs than any of the countries that have universal coverage?

Re “On Cruz control,†Letters, Sept. 26
Reader Jennifer Marks suggests that the “country doesn’t like†the Affordable Care Act. To me, that’s a pretty presumptuous statement. Polls are showing Americans divided on their attitudes toward the act, but to hear Marks tell it, it’s a blanket rejection.
Moreover, Obama won reelection a year ago on his plans for the program’s implementation. Does that suggest a country united in opposition it?
